OBJECTIVE: Te Araroa thru-hike (North Island)
DISTANCE: 1846 km

We are hiking Te Araroa—the length of New Zealand!

We are parking up the bus to go hiking this summer. Te Araroa—the long pathway—is an amazing 3000 km route spanning the length of New Zealand/Aotearoa. From Cape Reinga in the north to Bluff in the south, spanning a demanding, but beautiful and diverse landscape along the way.

BACKSTORY… After the COVID 19 pandemic put an end to our epic hiking expedition across the world we returned home to New Zealand and built an off-grid house bus, a tiny home on wheels. Our plan had been to end our world expedition by hiking the length of New Zealand. Now we are here a few years ahead of schedule, and the trail is still calling! Doing the trail now would be a great homecoming and a way to find closure.

As it turns out, we decided to only hike the North Island section this time (and a wee bit more) and save the south for another time, due to personal reasons. It was still an AMAZING adventure! Follow our journey here!
